Two business professors receive ‘Outstanding Educator Awards’

DURANT, Okla. – Two professors in the John Massey School of Business at Southeastern Oklahoma State University were recognized with “Outstanding Educator’’ awards recently.

Dr. Kitty Campbell received the McGraw-Hill “Outstanding Educator” Award from the Association for Small Business and Entrepreneurship at the 45th annual meeting of the Federation of Business Disciplines in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

At the same meeting, Dr. Lawrence Silver received the McGraw-Hill “Outstanding Educator” Award from the Southwest Case Research Association.

Campbell holds the title of Massey Professor and Chair of the Department of Management & Marketing at Southeastern. She has taught a wide range of courses in

Management, including Small Business Management and Entrepreneurship.

Campbell served two terms as President of the Association for Small Business & Entrepreneurship in 2005 and 2009 and was named a Fellow of the Association in 2010. In 2011, she was named “Professor of the Year” at Southeastern for outstanding teaching, service, and scholarship.

She earned her Bachelor of Science in Animal Science from Texas A & M University, a Master of Administrative Studies from Southeastern Oklahoma State University, and a Doctor of Education in Higher Education from Texas A & M University-Commerce.

Silver is Professor of Marketing and is the John Massey Endowed Chair in Marketing at Southeastern.

He is a past President of the Southwest Case Research Association and co-author of two business textbooks. In 2012, Silver received the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs Teaching Excellence Award for the Southwestern Council (Region 6).

Silver earned his Bachelor of Arts from Tulane University, a Master of Arts in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from Louisiana Tech, a Master of Business Administration from Louisiana Tech, and his Doctor of Business Administration from Louisiana Tech.

Dr.Lawrence Silver named President of the Southwest Case Research Association

Dr. Lawrence SilverDURANT, Okla. – Dr. Lawrence Silver of the John Massey School of Business at Southeastern Oklahoma State University was recently named president of the Southwest Case Research Association.

The association’s 44th annual meeting was held in Oklahoma City.

Silver previously served as President-elect and Vice President of Program for the association.

Silver is currently the John Massey Endowed Chair and Professor of Marketing at Southeastern – he joined the University faculty in 2006.

His research interests include application of cognitive psychology and neuroscience to marketing, management, and entrepreneurship; application of Eastern philosophy/religion to marketing, management, and ethics; marketing for thewine and spirits industries; and, small/family business cases.

Silver also volunteers with the business community by serving as a member of the Melissa (Texas) Economic Development Corporation (4A Board).

The Southwest Case Research Association is an academic organization of faculty members from throughout the southwest who teach accounting, finance, management, marketing, and other business specializations. The Southwest Case Research Association is affiliated with the North American Case Research Association.

The Southwest Case Research Association is also a member of the Federation of Business Disciplines and is a non-profit organization dedicated to the development of new knowledge and the transmission of existing knowledge utilizing the case method. The case teaching approach is often considered an important technique for teaching business subjects and is modeled after the Harvard Business School.

Silver earned his Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Sociology from Tulane University, a Master of Arts degree in Industrial/Organizational Psychology, a Master of Business Administration degree and his Doctor of Business Administration from Louisiana Tech University. In addition, Silver is a Chartered Life Underwriter and a Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter.
