Take Flight Aviation Camp held at Southeastern

DURANT, Okla. – Seven high school students participated in “Take Flight Aviation Science Camp” this week at Southeastern Oklahoma State University.

Among the week-long activities were:

  • Presentation on STEM (Science-Technology-Engineering-Mathematics) related aviation careers
  • Basic rocket building and launching
  • Airplane — Aerodynamics, design and performance, navigation, weather/atmospheric conditions
  • One hour of flight time in Southeastern Cessna C-172
  • One hour of flight time in flight simulator
  • Tour of Flight Safety International in Dallas

The students also stayed on campus during the week in a University residence hall.

George Jacox and Dr. Stan Alluisi of the Southeastern Aviation Sciences Institute coordinated the event.

“This camp is most effective in a small group setting,” Jacox said. “It is important that the students receive individual attention. This type of activity provides us with an opportunity to share our knowledge, while promoting careers in aviation-related fields.”
