SE Live/Native American Visitation Day set for Feb. 4

DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern Oklahoma State University has scheduled the SE Live Open House and Native American Visitation Day for Wednesday, February 4, on the Durant campus.

High school seniors and juniors, along with their parents and families, are invited to experience life as a student at Southeastern during SE Live Open House.

More than 250 students attended the event this past fall.

Highlights include programs on Scholarships and Financial Aid, Southeastern Traditions, Residence Life, and Life as a Student Athlete. Campus tours will also be offered throughout the day.

Native American Visitation Day allows students the opportunity to learn about Native American benefits, attend a class on Native American studies, and play a traditional game of stickball.

In the afternoon, students will have the opportunity to visit Eaker Field, home of the nationally-recognized Southeastern Aviation Program.

Choir and band students will have a chance to rehearse with those programs and audition for music scholarships in the fall.

Entertainment throughout the day will be provided by performing groups from Southeastern, including the Sparks Dance Team, Cheer Squad, and the True Blue Ambassadors.

All students attending the event will receive an SE Sackpack and one free lunch ticket. Lunch is sponsored by Durant’s First United Bank.

Southeastern student named Brad Henry Scholar, will attend Swansea University in Wales

Emalea HudgensDURANT, Okla. – Emalea Hudgens, a junior at Southeastern Oklahoma State University, has been named a Brad Henry International Scholar and will attend Swansea University (Wales) in the spring of 2015.

Hudgens, who is from Jay, Oklahoma, has a double major in psychology and music. She is a member of the Cherokee Nation and a Harvey Scholar recipient.

She is a Savage Storm Leader and was selected to be in the President’s Leadership Class for 2012-13. Hudgens is also a member of the Southeastern Chorale, Sparks Dance Team and Sigma Sigma Sigma sorority.

“I am very blessed and excited to get this opportunity to study abroad and become immersed in a different culture,’’ Hudgens said. “It has been a life-long dream of mine to travel the world and I cannot wait to share the stories and experiences with family and friends.”

The Brad Henry International Scholar Program was established by the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education in 2008 and provides for students to participate in a semester-long study-abroad program affiliated with Swansea. Academic credit for these programs is awarded by Oklahoma regional universities.

Campus tour at SE Live

SE Live set for February 8

DURANT, Okla. – High school seniors and juniors, plus their parents and families, are invited to attend SE Live Open House hosted by Southeastern Oklahoma State University.

SE Live is scheduled for Wednesday, February 8, on the Southeastern campus in Durant, Oklahoma.

“SE Live is a great day for high school seniors and juniors to visit Southeastern’s campus and envision themselves as college students for a day. It’s a chance for students to see our campus and the great opportunities Southeastern provides as a University,” said Marcus High, University Recruiter.

SE Live Open House is an excellent opportunity for high school students to experience what life is like as a Southeastern student. Students will attend workshops on Scholarships and Financial Aid, Southeastern Traditions and a College Success class. Campus tours will also be available in the afternoon.

Other highlights of the day will include entertainment by several of Southeastern’s performing groups, including the Sparks Dance Team. The choir and band will also hold early auditions for scholarships. In the afternoon, students will have an opportunity to visit Eaker Field, home of the Southeastern Aviation Program.

All students attending will receive an SE Sackpack and one free lunch ticket. Lunch is sponsored by First United Bank.

SE Live is an annual event on campus. Last year more than 500 students attended.
