BrainStorm on Hurricane Katrina

DURANT, Okla. — Dr. Jesse Snowden, former interim president of Southeastern Oklahoma State University, presented a lecture Thursday on “Hurricane Katrina: What Happened?’’ as part of the University’s two-week BrainStorm program. Snowden’s power point presentation included a historical perspective of New Orleans, as well as an examination of the causes of the disaster, with an emphasis on geology and engineering. Snowden, who resided in New Orleans for 21 years while teaching at the University of New Orleans, also discussed the remedial actions being implemented to prevent a future outcome of this type, in which more than 1,000 people died in 2005. Snowden is an adjunct professor at Southeastern, teaching World & Regional Geography.
