Dr. Wayne D. Jones is chairman of the Department of Occupational Safety & Health at Southeastern Oklahoma State University in Durant, OK where he has been a faculty member since 1994. Dr. Jones received his bachelor of science degree in business administration and safety education in 1983 from Southeastern Oklahoma State University; a master of science in aviation safety from Central Missouri State University in 1984; master of arts degree in religious education from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1988; and a doctorate in educational instruction, curriculum, and research from Texas A&M University – Commerce in 2002.

From 2006 - 2009 Dr. Jones was Administrator of the Academics Practice Specialty of the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) where he also served on the Council on Practices and Standards, Board of Delegates, and the Educational Standards Committee. He is currently a member of the ASSE Student Activities Task Force. He is a Past-President of the safety division of the National Association of Industrial Technology (NAIT). Additionally, Dr. Jones served as President of the Southeastern Oklahoma State University Faculty Senate from 2007 - 2009. Dr. Jones has served as a site-review team member for the National Institute of Occupational Safety & Health's external funding division, has completed courses in emergency program management through the FEMA - Emergency Management Institute, is a 1993 graduate of the Oklahoma Council on Law Enforcement Education & Training law enforcement academy, and received his private pilot's license in 1982.

Dr. Jones was recently named the 2009 Dr. William E. Tarrants Outstanding Safety Educator by the American Society of Safety Engineers, is a two-time recipient of the Southeastern Oklahoma State University Faculty Senate excellence in service award, three-time recipient of the Southeastern Faculty Senate excellence in teaching award, and two-time recipient of the ASSE Outstanding Service Award. He received the 2005 Jesse Locke Membership Safety Award from the ASSE Southwest Chapter, and received the Spirit of Southeastern award in 2001.

Dr. Jones has presented papers at numerous national and regional conferences, attended as a delegate or presided over 20+ national meetings and conferences and has published several articles on management and occupational safety issues. He has worked as a committee member or chaired over 40 university, regional, and national committees and currently advises over 150 students in occupational safety & health.

Dr. Jones divides his time between his home in Durant, Oklahoma and his favorite city, New Orleans, LA..
