Outstanding Southeastern Alumni Profiles

Brandi Cockrell

Brandi Cockrell graduated from Southeastern in 2005 earning a Bachelor of Science: Professional Pilot degree. She is a captain with Endeavor Airlines, a regional carrier owned by Delta Air Lines based in Michigan.  She was recently promoted to the rank of captain with Endeavor.

Cockrell’s success at Southeastern provided the pathway to her success as a pilot. As a student at Plainview High School, Cockrell began to consider a career in aviation on the advice of a family friend and Southeastern alum, Danny Roberson.  The prominence and reputation of the Aviation Sciences Institute was the main catalyst for her enrollment at SE.  Her experiences at Southeastern moved her vision of becoming a pilot to reality.

“I loved my time at Southeastern,” she said. “There’s something there for everybody.”

While attending SE, Cockrell took part in many student organizations including the Honors Program, President Leadership Club, Tri-Sigma sorority and acted as president of the Sierra Sierra Chapter of Women in Aviation, International. She was also named a Top 10 Freshman.

“It was like a big extended family,” she said about the Southeastern community. “You can’t get lost in a crowd.”

Additionally, Cockrell benefitted from the availability and additional attention from her instructors. She remembers a particular aviation instructor who would meet with students in the library during his free time.

Cockrell enjoys her life as a pilot and the variety of experiences her career provides. Her career allows her to spend time with family and offers her unique opportunities to travel.

“I like the aviator lifestyle,” she said. “You’re doing something different every day.”

Cockrell credits Southeastern with much of her success in her field which is derived from the education she received at Southeastern, and she recommends SE to anyone who is considering a college home.

“Go check it out,” she said. “There’s so much going on at Southeastern.”

At Southeastern, Cockrell created her unique path in the career of her choice, made lifelong friends and connections, and ultimately had an unforgettable college experience.
