Outstanding Southeastern Faculty & Staff

Dr. Martin Bressler

Dr. Martin Bressler, Professor of Marketing & Management and the John Massey Endowed Chair in Entrepreneurship, is a highly acclaimed education professional at Southeastern Oklahoma State University. Growing up approximately 20 miles west of Boston, Mass., he graduated from Oxford Memorial High School. Although he has lived in seven different states, he calls Texas home.

Bressler has earned multiple degrees and certificates, in the areas of history and government, marketing, business administration and higher education administration. Most recently, Bressler received a graduate certificate in business strategy from the Johnson Graduate School of Business, at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York.

He made the decision to join the faculty of the John Massey School of Business because he was specifically looking for an AACSB accredited university, (the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business).  Southeastern is one of only five universities in Oklahoma to have achieved AACSB accreditation, which is considered the gold standard of business school accreditation.

“My first responsibility is teaching in the area of entrepreneurship in both the undergraduate and graduate programs in addition to related business courses,” Bressler said.  “In addition, I oversee curriculum in that area, advise students as needed and serve as the AACSB accreditation coordinator.”

As an endowed chair holder, he is active in research and publication to help advance knowledge and practice in business. He serves on a number of college and university committees and is active in many service activities to the university and the profession. His service to the profession includes serving as an officer of academic organizations, reviewing academic papers for publication consideration, serving as an editor for an academic journal, and assisting small businesses in the community through volunteer projects.

In 1995, Bressler served as resource panel expert to the White House Conference on Small Business and in 1999, he was named a Fulbright Scholar. The Fulbright Scholar Program is the U.S. government’s very prestigious and highly selective international educational exchange program.  He was selected as part of a group of 23 U.S. educators to travel to Germany to learn about their system of higher education and facilitate the development of international educational exchanges.  Bressler served two terms as president for the Association of Small Business & Entrepreneurship and in 2009 received the Outstanding Educator Award for Creative and Innovative Teaching from the Academy of Educational Leadership.

Bressler has earned the master professor designation in business strategy from Irwin McGraw-Hill publishing company and in 2013 was named Southeastern Professor of the Year. When asked about his success as an educator and the motivation behind it, the inspiring professor said, “I am motivated by my desire to be the best I can in order to provide the best educational experience for my students. If you really love what you do, it never seems like work.”

“The faculty in the John Massey School of Business includes excellent teachers with a solid commitment to teaching and research, as well as excellent business experience,” he said. “Along with our classes on campus, the Southeastern MBA program is available completely online and is an excellent value.”

Aside from work, Dr. Bressler enjoys almost any kind of outdoor activities, especially travel and camping.  He was once a horseback-riding enthusiast, but an injury sustained from riding prompted him to make the decision to keep his feet firmly on the ground.
