Outstanding Southeastern Faculty & Staff

Dr. Wayne Jones

Dr. Wayne Jones serves as the Chair of the Occupational Safety and Health program.  He graduated from Idabel High School in 1979 and continued his education at Southeastern Oklahoma State University graduating in 1983 with his Bachelor of Science degree.   Jones attended the University of Central Missouri where he completed his Master of Science degree in 1984 before attaining the Master of Arts in Religious Education at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.  He completed the doctorate degree in education at Texas A&M University – Commerce in 2002.

In 1994, Jones was lured back to SE by Dr. Jim Cunningham.  Jones was asked to teach one adjunct class, and caught the “teaching bug.” Since then, Dr. Jones has found his home at Southeastern, and is now Chair/Professor of Occupational Safety and Health. He has been chair of the program for 15-years, and oversees a department of approximately 550 students and 20 full and part-time professors.

His unquenchable energy and his love of his alma mater are still hallmarks of his personality and commitment to Southeastern and his students.  Jones encourages prospective students to, “come to a school where we’re small enough to know your name and give you the special attention you deserve, yet large enough to provide all the possibilities and propel you wherever your dreams take you.”

For him, the students and the overall campus community atmosphere makes the experience at SE unique. His campus involvement doesn’t end at the classroom door.  As an ordained minister, he has performed 20 weddings for current and former SE students, several on the front lawn of Morrison Hall.

Outside of his busy schedule at Southeastern, Jones is a man of few words, but much like the quote from the famous investment firm E.F. Hutton, when Wayne Jones speaks, people listen.
