The SSN can also be used for identity verification in regards to opening a bank account, applying for an Oklahoma driver&#8217;s license or entering into a contract for a cell phone; however, these are not valid reasons to be issued a SSN and subsequently, you will be denied.<\/p>\n<h5>Who is Eligible<\/h5>\n<p>You must be employed or have an offer of employment to receive a Social Security Number. That means you must be an:<\/p>\n<p>F-1 student with on-campus employment<\/p>\n<p>F-1 student engaged in OPT or CPT<\/p>\n<h5>How to Apply<\/h5>\n<p>You will need to make an appointment with International Student Services and bring a letter from the employer on the employer\u2019s letterhead that includes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Identity of student employee<\/li>\n<li>Job description<\/li>\n<li>Anticipated or actual employment start date<\/li>\n<li>Employer contact information<\/li>\n<li>Original signature<\/li>\n<li>Date<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You will need to provide original documents showing proof of immigration status, identity, age, and work eligibility. Below is a list of original documents you will need to take with you to the Social Security Administration:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Completed application for a social security card<\/li>\n<li>Valid passport<\/li>\n<li>Valid F-1 visa<\/li>\n<li>I-94 Document<\/li>\n<li>Current I-20<\/li>\n<li>Letter from the Office of International Student Services<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For international students on OPT you will need to provide your Employment Authorization Document (EAD card) or a letter from the USCIS saying that you are eligible for a SSN.<\/p>\n<h5>Where to Apply<\/h5>\n<p>You must go in-person to the Social Security Administration located at:<\/p>\n<p>121 S. 12<sup>th<\/sup> Ave.<\/p>\n<p>Durant, OK 74701<\/p>\n<p><em>Hours:<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Monday: 7:00AM- 7:00PM<\/p>\n<p>Tuesday: 7:00AM-7:00PM<\/p>\n<p>Wednesday: 7:00AM-7:00PM<\/p>\n<p>Thursday: 7:00AM-7:00PM<\/p>\n<p>Friday: 7:00AM- 7:00PM<\/p>\n<p>Saturday &amp; Sunday: CLOSED<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A Social Security Number (SSN) is a 9 digit number used as an employment identification number for tax purposes.
