{"id":28,"date":"2019-04-18T17:10:16","date_gmt":"2019-04-18T17:10:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/localhost\/learning-center\/?page_id=28"},"modified":"2023-07-12T19:55:59","modified_gmt":"2023-07-12T19:55:59","slug":"additional-resources","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.se.edu\/learning-center\/additional-resources\/","title":{"rendered":"Additional Resources"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Placement Tests, Math Department Pre-Tests, CLEP Examinations<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Placement Tests<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Learning Center is responsible for the placement of those students who are admitted with deficiencies in English, math, and reading.\u00a0 Each student\u2019s placement in English, math, and reading is determined based on his score on Computerized Placement Test (CPT) through Canvas.\u00a0 Each of our placement tests is developed to correlate with its corresponding course; therefore, we cannot accept placement scores from other colleges.<\/p>\n<p>The placement tests are administered each day, Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.\u00a0 Students should visit or call the Learning Center after receiving a letter or email from the Admissions Office.\u00a0 Learning Center staff administer the tests and make placement recommendations based on the resulting scores.<\/p>\n<p>The English, reading and math placement tests are not timed. \u00a0Students are encouraged to arrive early to avoid rushing through the tests.<\/p>\n<p>The placement test can also be taken from an off-campus location using the Respondus lockdown browser and a webcam.\u00a0 For information on taking the placement test from an off-campus location, please contact the Learning Center at (580) 745-2990 or by e-mail at <a href=\"mailto:learningcenter@se.edu\">learningcenter@se.edu<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Math Department Pre-Tests<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>College Algebra Departmental Pre-test<\/em><br \/>\nThe college algebra departmental placement exam is a prerequisite to enroll in MATH 1513 \u2013 College Algebra.\u00a0 This test is administered in the Learning Center from 8:00-5:00, Monday through Friday.\u00a0 The test consists of\u00a0 25 questions, and a passing score is 60%.\u00a0 The following is a list of objective\/skills that are required for enrollment in College Algebra:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">1.\u00a0 Order of Operations<br \/>\n2.\u00a0 Solve Linear Equations-A<br \/>\n3.\u00a0 Solve Linear Equations-B<br \/>\n4.\u00a0 Solve\/Evaluate Formula<br \/>\n5.\u00a0 Solve Linear Inequalities-A<br \/>\n6.\u00a0 Solve Linear Inequalities-B<br \/>\n7.\u00a0 Evaluate Absolute Value<br \/>\n8.\u00a0 Use Exponent Rules<br \/>\n9.\u00a0 Evaluate with Negative Exponents<br \/>\n10. These tests are given upon request. The testing materials must be ordered on an as needed basis . Pleases allow 4-6 weeks for materials to be delivered.<\/p>\n<p><em>Acceptable Forms of Identification\u00a0(ACT Policy)<\/em>: All identification must be original, not a photocopy or reproduction.\u00a0 No stamped, computer-generated, or reproduced signatures are allowed.\u00a0 School issued identification, publications, letters, and transcripts are not acceptable for home-schooled examinees.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0Current Official Photo Identification<\/em> \u2013Must be issued by your school or\u00a0city\/state\/federal\u00a0government (such as driver\u2019s license or passport) on which both your first and last names and photo appear.<\/p>\n<p><em>Letter of identification<\/em> \u2013 must include photo \u2013 issued by your school: Must be individually completed in English and signed in ink by a school official (who may not be a relative) and include all of the following: your date of birth,<br \/>\nyour gender, the name of your high school and its location (e.g., city, state), your recent and recognizable individual head-and-shoulders photo attached to the letter with a raised or inked school seal or school official\u2019s signature in ink overlapping a portion of the photo.You must sign the letter in ink in the presence of the school official.<\/p>\n<p><em>Notarized statement with photo<\/em>:\u00a0If you do not have either of the above forms of photo ID, contact a notary public (who may not be a relative). Attach a current photo of yourself to a sworn statement in English that identifies you by first and last names. You must sign this statement in ink in the presence of the notary public, who must affix the notary seal or stamp overlapping a portion of the photo.<\/p>\n<p>If you present an acceptable school letter or notarized statement, you must sign it again in the presence of test center staff on test day.<\/p>\n<p><em>Unacceptable Forms of Identification<\/em>\u00a0\u2013\u00a0Birth certificate; ChildFind ID card; charge, bank, check cashing, or credit cards with or without photo; fishing or hunting license; graduation picture or family portrait; high school transcript with or without photo; ID issued by an employer; learner\u2019s driving permit or temporary\/replacement driver\u2019s license without photo; letter of identification without a photo; organization membership card; passport or other photo ID so old that the person presenting it cannot be identified; phone calls to the test center to identify examinee; photo ID issued by a business for promotional purposes; photo ID of parents or guardians; photo with student\u2019s name embossed or printed on the photo by a photographer; police report of a stolen purse or wallet; published individual photo; report card or diploma; social security card; traffic ticket; and web page with photo<\/p>\n<p><em>Retest Restriction<\/em>\u00a0\u2013 If a student tested previously via residual or any other non-national testing, the retest should be taken on a national test day. If this is not possible, a minimum of 60 days must elapse before another residual test may be taken. This restriction is necessary to ensure that recent familiarity with questions on the test form is not reflected in inappropriately higher scores. It is the responsibility of the testing institution to incorporate this restriction into its residual testing procedures. If the 60-day time limit is violated, the retest scores will be canceled automatically. No refund will be made for such canceled retests.<\/p>\n<p><em>Scores<\/em>\u00a0 \u2013Residual ACT scores are for students who: 1) are enrolled, 2) have been admitted, or 3) are applying for admission to SE.\u00a0 Scores are valid only at SE and cannot be transferred to any other institution or agency.\u00a0\u00a0 No score reports will be generated by SE (or ACT) to students, high schools, colleges, or scholarship agencies.<\/p>\n<p><em>Calculators<\/em>\u00a0\u2013 ACT permits examinees to use a calculator on the Mathematics Test (Test 2) but not on any of the other tests.\u00a0 Use of a calculator is optional.\u00a0 All problems on the Mathematics Test can be solved without a calculator.\u00a0 Any four-function, scientific, or graphing calculator may be used, unless it is\u00a0specifically prohibited as described below.<\/p>\n<p>Prohibited calculators:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Texas Instruments:\u00a0 All model numbers that begin with TI-89 or TI-92; and the TI-Nspire CAS\u2013Note:\u00a0 The TI-Nspire (non CAS) is permitted<\/li>\n<li>Hewlett-Packard: HP 48GII and all model numbers that begin with HP 40G, HP 49G, or HP 50G<\/li>\n<li>Casio:\u00a0 Algebra fx 2.0, ClassPad 300, and all model numbers that begin with CFX\u20139970G<\/li>\n<li>Handheld, tablet, or laptop computers, including PDAs<\/li>\n<li>Electronic writing pads or pen-input devices\u2013Note:\u00a0 The Sharp EL 9600 is permitted.<\/li>\n<li>Calculators built into cell phones or other electronic communication devices<\/li>\n<li>Calculators with a typewriter keypad (keys in QWERTY format)\u2013Note:\u00a0 Letter keys not in QWERTY format are permitted<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The following types of calculators are permitted, but only after they are modified as noted:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Calculators with paper tape\u2013remove the tape<\/li>\n<li>Calculators that make noise\u2013turn off the sound<\/li>\n<li>Calculators that can communicate wirelessly with other calculators\u2013completely cover the infrared data port with heavy opaque material, such as duct tape or electrician\u2019s tape (includes Hewlett-Packard HP 38G and HP 39G series and HP 48G)<\/li>\n<li>Calculators that have power cords\u2013remove all power\/electrical cords.<br \/>\nExaminees are responsible for bringing a permitted calculator and making sure it works properly.\u00a0 The test site is not expected to provide calculators or batteries.\u00a0 Examinees may not share calculators.\u00a0 They may use a backup calculator if their primary calculator fails but may not use more than one calculator at a time.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Test Participants will be the ONLY People Allowed in the Testing Room<\/p>\n<p>Do NOT bring Cell Phones, Friends, Pets, etc. with you to take the Residual ACT Test.<\/p>\n<p><strong>CLEP Tests<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>College Level Examination Program Southeastern is a National testing center.\u00a0 Exams taken through the National or open testing conditions are transferable to any institution accepting CLEP scores (check receiving institution&#8217;s criteria for accepting and awarding credit). Southeastern&#8217;s CLEP code is 6657. The total cost is $108.00 per test; however, prices are subject to change. $93 is paid to CLEP during registration, and $15 is paid to the business office at Southeastern. Advance registration is required. Requests may be sent to the Southeastern Learning Center at <u><a href=\"mailto:learningcenter@se.edu\">learningcenter@se.edu<\/a><\/u>\u00a0or by calling 580-745-2990.<\/p>\n<p>Students must now present two forms of personal identification in order to be admitted to a CLEP testing room. The primary form of identification must be a government-issued photo ID card that bears the student\u2019s signature. The secondary form of identification must have a signature or photo, and the name on the secondary form of identification must be IDENTICAL to the name on the primary form of identification. All funded military candidates must present a current military ID and a second form of government-issued photo ID.<\/p>\n<p><em>ALL CLEP\u00ae exam payments must be made by test-takers online at <a href=\"https:\/\/clep.collegeboard.org\/\">Collegeboard<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Contact the Learning Center for a complete list of CLEP examinations, the Southeastern course equivalency, and the score requirements to receive semester credit.<\/p>\n<p>Students can take the CLEP exams at homes with remote proctoring.
