The academy is sponsored by the Chickasaw Nation in coordination with the Native American Center for Student Success. Chickasaw students who participate in this week long event get to live in the Shearer Hall dormitories, attend classes, eat meals in the university cafeteria, and complete various assignments and tasks just as college students do. In addition to these classroom experiences the students participate in making traditional style stickball sticks, learn the history of stickball with some hands-on experiences, and partake in other unique cultural activities.
