Morgan Set to Take over SE Track and Field Program

DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern Director of Athletics Keith Baxter has announced the hiring of Dr. Jerome Morgan to take over the head coaching position for the Savage Storm women's track and field program.
 
He will step into the role as the head coach for track and field and will assist with the women's cross-country program, while Dr. Stephanie Heald will resume her position as assistant coach for track and field and will serve as the head coach for the cross-country team.
 
"I am excited about the future of SE Women's Track &Field," said Baxter, "Coach Morgan brings great credentials that will enhance the experience for our student-athletes."
 
"First off," said Morgan, "I want to express gratitude to the Director of Athletics Keith Baxter and the entire search committee.  I am honored to have been selected as the new Head Coach of the Savage Storm's Track and Field program. I look forward to working with Dr. Heald, our student-athletes and the entire athletic department to propel the program upward. I hope to establish a championship culture among our student-athletes with excellence set as our standard both in the classroom and on the field of play."
 
Morgan makes the move to Durant after spending two seasons at Austin Peay where he most recently served as the Director of Operations for the Track and Field program and worked with the team's throwers.
 
He was the primary throws coach while also assisting with the development of other student-athletes in different disciplines. In his role as director of operations, Morgan was involved in the day-to-day operations of the track and field program while also handling travel arrangements, scheduling team meals, assisting with meet management, and community service events.
 
Prior to his time with the Governors, Morgan most recently spent three seasons (2018-21) as a volunteer assistant coach at Division II Cameron University where he was responsible for the Aggies' sprints, jumps, and throws.
 
Before his time in Lawton, Okla., Morgan was a volunteer assistant at the junior college level, spending two seasons (2016-17) at Odessa College where he worked with the Wranglers' middle-distance runners.
 
From 2017-20, Morgan worked as a Chemical Biological Radiological and nuclear specialist for the United States Army at Fort Sill near Lawton, Okla.
 
Morgan began his coaching career as an assistant track and field coach at St. Andrews High School for Girls in Kingston, Jamaica, working specifically with jumpers and throwers. Prior to his coaching career, Morgan competed as a track athlete at G.C. Foster College in Spanish Town, Jamaica.
 
Morgan has earned a pair of degrees from the American Military University, receiving a bachelor's in sports management in 2020 and a master's in sports management with a concentration in Coaching Theory and Strategy in 2021.
 
He most recently earned a doctorate in healthcare administration from Virginia University–Lynchburg in December.
 
Morgan is also a Level 1 and Level 2 certified coach by the USA Track & Field Coaching Academy.
 
He and his wife Dasiana have three children, Jaedash, Valencia, and Rojae.
