Needham Earns NCAA DII National Championship Bid

DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern record holder Macayla Needham capped the 2024 season by becoming the first Savage Storm track and field athlete to earn a berth to the NCAA Division II Track and Field National Championships, picking up a bid in the shot put.

She is one of 24 finalists in the nation in the event and her mark of 15.28 meters heads into the event seeded eighth among those advancing.

The mark she earned her seeding with is the same school-record toss that she earned her Great American conference Championship with less than two weeks previous.

At those championships she picked up titles in both the shot put and the hammer throw.

In her season with the Storm she has collected school records in both the shot put and the hammer throw and owns at least the five bets throws in both events in school history.

The NCAA DII Championships are slated for May 23-25 in Emporia, Kan., with Needham scheduled to throw on May 25.
