Your Sound Choice for Music

Greetings!  Southeastern Oklahoma State University has a longstanding reputation for musical excellence. The Department of Music is recognized for its quality performances, education and community service.  The department is a major player in bringing the performance arts to the Texoma Region and beyond.  With four degree programs serving students from Oklahoma and Texas, as well as other national and international students, the department strives to maintain a vibrant and diverse student population.

The Southeastern Department of Music has a strong record of placement for our graduates into competitive jobs and graduate programs.  Our music education graduates are enriching the region as strong music educators; our alumni are performing professionally in a variety of places, attending graduate schools, and founding their own performance ensembles.

We are committed to providing numerous opportunities for the professional and artistic growth of our students. Our applied faculty members maintain performance careers, and have been selected as teachers for national and international festivals and conferences.  Our ensembles host noted guest artists ranging from Grammy Award winning Conspirare to the St. Louis Brass. Students have the opportunity to experience quality concerts through the Musical Arts Series featuring such groups as The King’s Singers, Julliard String Quartet, Fifth House, and Harlem Boys Choir, to just name a few.

Our student ensembles have been featured performers at state and regional conferences for both instrumental and vocal music professionals. They have also successfully toured nationally, in China and in Europe as part of our commitment to the highest level of student opportunities and growth.  Individual students are afforded the opportunity to take part in numerous regional, national and international clinics and masterclasses.

As we continue to seek ways to serve the art and region we look towards implementing new programs and initiatives.  Newest among these is the Masters of Music Education degree which will graduate its first students in 2017.  This online program allows educators to continue working while working towards their Masters.  Other initiatives a newly remodeled Recital Hall, expansion of our University Center Music Annex, technology updates, and the hiring of new faculty to meet our growing needs.  We hope that you will come explore all that Southeastern Oklahoma State University has to offer as your Sound Choice for music.

Southeastern Oklahoma State University is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM).
