International Student

Thank you for your interest in attending Southeastern Oklahoma State University.  There are 3 types of International Student admission: freshmen, transfer, and graduate.

An international student is not a United States citizen and does not have permanent resident status. More specifically, international students are those on F-1 visas.

Admission Dates

Fall semester: June 1 for students outside of the U.S.; July 1 for students in the U.S.
Spring semester: November 1 for students outside of the U.S.; December 1 for students in the U.S.
Summer session: April 1 for students outside of the U.S.; May 1 for students in the U.S.

Document Submission

All academic records, TOEFL scores, and/or IELTS Academic scores must be official and should be mailed to:

Original copies of the Affidavit of Financial Support and the bank statement stamped and signed by a bank official is required to be submitted to International Student Services upon arrival. All supporting documents must be in English or must have an English translation accompanying the original document.

International Undergraduate Students (Freshmen) Open Close

Admission Requirements: New freshmen must have at least an ACT composite of 20 or SAT of 1030 or have a GPA of 2.7.

Academic Records: Original, final high school/secondary transcript(s) and original diploma and/or certificate of completion must be analyzed by a NACES educational credential evaluation service such as IERF or ECE with course by course and GPA. If you are in the last semester of your final year of secondary/high school, Southeastern requires a signed letter from a school administrator stating that you are expected to graduate on ______ (date). Admitted students must still bring an original, final transcript and proof of graduation (e.g., diploma) to Southeastern in order to enroll in classes.

Note: “Original” is issued by a school or examination board with an official signature and school stamp or seal.

English Proficiency: Students need to have Internet-based TOEFL score of 61 or an IELTS Academic score of 5.5 (taken within 2 years of enrollment). Students with an Internet-based TOEFL score between 48 – 60 or an IELTS score of 5.0 may complete a minimum of 12 weeks in an ESL program approved by the Oklahoma State Regents and meet the English language proficiency requirements. You do not need TOEFL or IELTS scores if English is your first language or you graduated from a U.S. high school with 4 years of English. 

Financial Support Documentation: Submit an Undergraduate Affidavit of Financial Support along with an original bank statement stamped and signed by a bank official (within 6 months of your enrollment) demonstrating that your sponsor has a liquid US$ balance that covers the cost of your enrollment at Southeastern for the first year of your degree program. All documents must be in English. If not, an English translation must accompany the original. A new Affidavit of Financial Support is required each year.

Passport Name Page: Copy of the biographic page of your passport showing your name, date of birth, passport number and expiration date. If dependents will accompany you to Southeastern, provide copies of their passport biographic pages, along with marriage and birth certificates, as applicable, to verify your family relationship.

Statement of Understanding: Please read the Statement of Understanding carefully. You must agree to each of these statements before you will be considered for admission.

US $55.00 Application Fee: This is not refundable.  We will email your student ID number to you after you submit all the required documents. Once you receive your student ID number, you will call the Southeastern Business Office (580-745-2350) to pay your application fee (paying with a credit card is recommended). Note:  Please tell the Business Office that you are an international applicant.

Receiving your I-20: When the application fee and all documents are received, we will move forward with reviewing your file for admission to the University.  Once you are accepted, you will receive an acceptance letter and your initial I-20.

**There may be additional academic requirements for student-athletes per athletic eligibility.

International Undergraduate Students (Transfers) Open Close

Admission Requirements: Transfer students should have 24 hours of college/university credits with a GPA of 2.0 or higher.

Academic Records: Official post-secondary transcript(s) and, if applicable, diploma(s) from each college or university attended. Transfer student requirements are 24 hours of college/university credits with a 2.0 Grade Point Average (GPA). If you have completed fewer than 24 hours of college/university credits, you must also submit original, final high school/secondary transcript(s) and an original diploma and/or certificate of completion.

Notes: “Original” is issued by a school or examination board with an official signature and school stamp or seal.
All high school/post-secondary records from outside the U.S. must be analyzed by a NACES educational credential evaluation service such as IERF or WES or ECE with course by course and GPA.

International Graduate Students Open Close

International students can apply to the following graduate program:

Master of Technology

 

Admission/Academic Records: Official post-secondary transcript(s) and diploma(s) from each college or university attended. If your transcript is not issued in English, we require the original document as well as an English translation done by your school(s) or a professional translating company.

Note: All high school/post-secondary records from outside the U.S. must be analyzed by a NACES educational credential evaluation service such as IERF or WES or ECE with course by course and GPA.

Additional: The Master of Science in Technology may have additional requirements.

English Proficiency: Internet-based TOEFL score of 79 or an IELTS Academic score of 6.5; taken within 2 years of enrollment. You do not need TOEFL or IELTS scores if English is your first language or you have a bachelor’s degree from a U.S. college or university or other English speaking country.
