Southeastern chemistry student group receives honors

DURANT, Okla. – Dr. Jerry Polson, Chair of the Chemistry, Computer, and Physical Sciences Department, has received notification that Southeastern Oklahoma State University's student chapter of the American Chemical Society (ACS) earned an Honorable Mention Award for its activities during the 2008-09 academic year.
More than 360 reports were submitted for 2008-09 and The Society Committee on Education presented 35 outstanding, 68 commendable and 119 honorable mention awards. Lists of award-winning chapters will be published in Chemical & Engineering News and in inChemistry, the student member magazine.
The award-winning chapters will also be honored at the 239th ACS National Meeting in San Francisco, Calif., March 21, 2010.
Dr. Thomas H. Lane, president of the American Chemical Society, said, "Professors Gordon Eggleton and Nancy Paiva, faculty advisors of the chapter, deserve special commendation. Few faculty members are willing to make the great commitment of time and energy that a successful chapter requires. Their efforts certainly represent the best in undergraduate science education and mentoring around the country."
