The Parsons Scholar
Established by a perpetual endowment from the estate of Dr. David L. “Chock” Parsons, the Parsons Scholar designation is the most prestigious scholarship offered by Southeastern Oklahoma State University.
Dr. Parsons graduated from Southeastern in 1928 and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in History. He earned a Master’s degree in History from the University of Chicago and a Ph.D. degree from the University of Oklahoma.
Dr. Parsons was an educator, writer, pharmacist, and businessman. Primarily his wealth was gained from oil discovered on land owned in West Texas and through business investments. Of all his publications, perhaps his most scholarly and widely acclaimed is The Osages.
A bachelor, Dr. Parsons, was concerned that deserving youth with demonstrated ability receives an opportunity for quality education. To make this possible, he left his entire estate to Southeastern to be used as a perpetual endowment for scholarships. Moreover, he remained loyal to his heritage when, in his will, he specified “all my property and estate of every nature … for the use of deserving students at Southeastern … and that, when possible, preference be given to students of Choctaw Indian descent.”
It is expected that these Scholars will provide the highest level of scholastic achievement on the campus of Southeastern Oklahoma State University and. throughout life bring honor to the memory of Dr. David L. Parsons and the University.

To be eligible for the Parsons Scholarship, students must:
- Meet standard admission requirements for Southeastern and have applied for Admission
- Demonstrate outstanding leadership in extracurricular activities
- Demonstrate involvement in the community
- It is expected that the conduct of the Parsons Scholars will be above reproach and will set the highest example of conduct, scholarship, leadership and citizenship at the University.

Number Offered: 5
Amount: Full tuition & Fees + 100% Board + $1,500 yearly book allowance.
Eligibility: ACT Superscore of 25+ or SAT equivalent, or 3.5+ unweighted HS GPA to be considered. All students must submit a ACT or SAT Score.
Duration: Per semester for a total of 8 semesters.
