The Media Studies – Broadcasting degree program provides students an excellent opportunity to pursue an interest in broadcasting. The Media Studies core provides students with a comprehensive overview of the theoretical and practical approaches of mass communication.

Advertising and Public Relations Emphasis Open Close

In the Advertising and Public Relations emphasis, students study strategic communication messaging and campaign implementation to enhance and protect an organization’s brand and reputation. Students learn the keys to building and strengthening relationships and influencing audiences across situations by exploring topics in social media, advertising design, persuasion and influence, public relations campaigns, risk and crisis communication, health communication, and organizational communication. Through project-based learning and case studies, this program will equip students with the confidence and skills needed to be successful in the advertising and public relations industries.

Program Outcomes

Alumni from Southeastern’s Advertising and Public Relations program have joined businesses and organizations in Dallas, Oklahoma City, and Tulsa. Others have joined top graduate programs in media studies or other communication-related graduate programs, while others have pursued law degrees.

Broadcasting Emphasis Open Close

In the Broadcasting emphasis, students study writing and reporting for radio, television, and the internet. They learn media production techniques to be successful in the rapidly changing media environment. Students explore topics in audio and video production, multimedia journalism, social media, and online video production. The broadcasting emphasis equips students with the confidence, critical thinking, and production skills you need to communicate effectively in the fast-paced media environment.

Journalism Emphasis Open Close

In the Journalism emphasis, students study journalism practices including interviewing and research techniques, as well as investigative, feature, and editorial writing. Media Studies students also develop skills in photojournalism. The Journalism emphasis equips students with the real-world, dead-line driven skills needed to successfully contribute to regional and community newsrooms.
