Press Release Date: 05-10-2010
Southeastern Oklahoma State University's Soccer Club claimed the 2010 Oklahoma Collegiate Club Soccer League (OCCSL) championship with a record of five wins, one loss and two ties.
The OCCSL, administered through the Oklahoma Soccer Association, includes the University of Oklahoma, Oklahoma State University, Arkansas University, Tulsa University, Oklahoma City Community College, East Central, Oklahoma Baptist, Oklahoma Christian, Central Oklahoma, Rose State College and Southeastern.
The SE Soccer Club advanced to the regional tournament semifinals before dropping a close 2-0 match against Oklahoma. Southeastern hosted four games this year, including the University of Oklahoma.
The club was founded in 2004 as a social group that met bi-monthly just to kick the ball around. Nothing was organized and the club eventually disbanded.
Michael Delloro is a senior at SE and president of the soccer club. He organized the club in the Fall of 2009, obtaining uniforms, equipment, practice facilities and support from both Southeastern and the community. The club was sanctioned with SE's Office of Student Life at the start of the Spring 2010 semester.
The club boasted 37 members from 11 countries: USA, Gabon, Spain, El Salvador, Ghana, Ecuador, Panama, Ivory Coast, Brazil, France and Benin.
