Musical Arts Series to feature quartet on Oct. 13

DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern Oklahoma State University’s Musical Arts Series will present Quarteto Vivace Brasil at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 13, in the Fine Arts Recital Hall.
Founded in 2008, Quarteto Vivace Brasil is one of the more exciting new groups on the Brazilian music scene. Four master players on two guitars, percussion and flute bring sizzling energy to Brazilian sambas and choros, Argentinian tangos, American ragtime and arrangements of favorite classics from Bach to Bizet’s Carmine to Carnival of the Animals by Saint-Saens.
The Musical Arts Series is produced with sponsorship from Southeastern, the Donna Massey Music Education Support Fund, Oklahoma Arts Council, Red River Arts Council, Mid-America Arts Alliance, the National Endowment for the Arts, the Steger Piano Institute, the Cherokee Telephone Company of Calera, Okla., and area individuals who generously provide funds for these events.
Dr. Tadeu Coelho, Brazilian-born artist/flutist, frequently appears as soloist, chamber musician and master clinician throughout the world. He is on the faculty of the University of North Carolina and has released his seventh CD, “Azules – Enchanting Music for the Soul for Flute and Harp” with Karen Thielen.
Edson Lopes teaches advanced classical guitar at the Tatui Conservatory and is conductor/arranger for the OCTOPUS Guitar Ensemble. He performs throughout Brazil in solo, chamber and concerto appearances.
Roberto Colchiesqui studied guitar at the Tatui Conservatory and has released two CDs. He appears in concerts and recitals in the South of Brazil, sponsored by the Music Initiatives of the Sao Paulo state government.
Rodrigo Marinonio studied classical percussion before entering Jazz and Popular music. He has appeared as a guest in several CDs with the Brazilian Wind Orchestra and in Japan. He serves as a professor of drum set at the Tatui Conservatory, playing with the Big Band Sam/Jazz and the instrumental group Cincado.
