Percussion Ensemble to present Fall Concert on Nov. 17
Press Release Date: 11-1-2011
DURANT, Okla. – The Southeastern Oklahoma State University Percussion Ensemble will present an evening of unique percussion music on Thursday, Nov. 17, at 7:30 p.m., under the direction of Dr. Marc M. White. The event will be held in the Southeastern Fine Arts Recital Hall.
"The Southeastern Percussion Ensemble has experienced considerable recognition over the past several years, performing at university, community, and regional/state events to standing-room-only audiences," White said.
The group has performed and been a featured ensemble for the past 14 years at the Oklahoma Percussive Arts Society state conventions.
"One of the unique qualities of the ensemble is the wide variety of literature that we perform," White said. "This includes literature from the standard repertoire written specifically for percussion as well as arrangements of pieces ranging from Classical literature to contemporary popular tunes and novelty pieces."
The group utilizes all the standard drums, keyboard percussion, and auxiliary percussion as well as electronic percussion, bass guitar, keyboard synthesizers, drum set, and "found percussion." In addition to traditional percussion music, the Southeastern Percussion Ensemble performs music from other world cultures and musical genres, incorporating indigenous instruments and performance practices as part of each concert.
The concert is free and open to the public.
