Our program is an elite group of 16 men and women who are dedicated to increasing the overall spirit of the campus community. We perform at events, serve as University ambassadors, and are dedicated to improve skills throughout the year.

Clinics Open Close

SE Cheer is hosting several opportunities for cheerleaders to interact with the current team members and coaching staff. Our Prep Clinics are open to high school – college aged cheerleaders and are geared toward those interested in trying out for the SE Cheerleading program in the future.

 

Tryout Timeline and Important Dates Open Close

The selection for the team is a two-part process: video submission of skills followed by an invite-only live team section. The due date for everything to be submitted is Saturday, April 13 to receive an invitation to the live portion. In-person evaluations are scheduled for Sunday, April 21. Instructions for video submissions and team selection will be emailed.

  • Video submissions will be due April 13.
  • Invitation to second portion of tryout will be sent out April 15.
     
  • Tryouts will be April 21, 2024, 10am. (Invite Only)
  • Mandatory New Squad Meeting & Fitting: June 11, 2024.
  • Mandatory Summer Practice: July 9-11, 2024.
  • Mandatory Cheer Camp: August 1-2, 2024.
Tryout Material Open Close

Cheerleaders will be judged on the following:

Jumps: Pike, Toe Touch, Double Toe Touch, Jump of your Choice
Stunt: Extended Liberty & Stunt of your Choice
Tumbling: Standing Pass & Running Pass
Game Day: Fight Song
Skills: Spirit, Dance & Chant

  • Female Cheerleaders:
    • Top: black sports bra
    • Bottom: solid black spandex
    • White Cheer shoes and white socks
    • Cheer bow
    • Make-up should complement your natural beauty. Hair should be worn half up-half down with a bow.
  • Male Cheerleaders:
    • Black short sleeve shirt
    • Solid black shorts
    • Make sure that hair is neatly styled. A clean-cut look is required
Cheer Practice Times Open Close

Fall: 4 practices and 2 workouts a week
Spring: 3 practices and 2 workouts a week

Cheer Team Eligibility Open Close
  • Need to be admitted to Southeastern.
  • To be eligible to be a Cheer Squad member, the member must be a full-time student (12 hours undergraduate), and maintain a GPA of at least 2.0.
  • Comply with the Cheer Squad Constitution.
  • Attend pre-camp practice.

What are the tryout requirements?

  • Must be accepted into Southeastern Oklahoma State University at the time of tryouts.
  • You must be able to attend all practices, games, and other related activities throughout the entire season.
  • All necessary documentation to participate.
  • Back handspring

*Cheerleaders are encouraged to tryout even if they do not meet tumbling requirements.

What should I wear for tryouts?

  • 2-piece attire:
    • Top: black sports bra
    • Bottom: solid black spandex
  • Male Cheerleaders:
    • Black short sleeve shirt
    • Solid black shorts
  • White Cheer shoes and white socks
  • Cheer bow

How should I wear my hair and make-up?

Can my family watch tryouts?

  • All portions of our tryout process will be closed to the public.

Are virtual clinics mandatory?

  • Clinics are non-mandatory. They are clinics offered to provide preparation for our upcoming tryout. They are an inside look of what we expect at tryouts.

What does SE Cheer get to do?

  • Perform at all Southeastern Football Home Games, Men’s and Women’s Basketball Home Games and community-wide events.
  • Travel to Men’s and Women’s Basketball Tournament Games.
  • Entertain fans at various campus and off-campus events.
  • Lend time and talent at community service events.
  • MAKE LIFETIME FRIENDS!

If I am currently a high school senior but will not graduate until June, can I still tryout and be selected?

  • Yes, as long as you are accepted into SOSU.

Are there any program benefits?

  • Scholarship, Team Issued Athletic Apparel and Uniforms, Team Travel (Football and Basketball) Strength & Conditioning are provided to each member of our program.

What type of time commitment is required if chosen as an SE cheerleader?

  • TOTAL COMMITMENT IS REQUIRED!!!!
