Presidential search screening committee holds orientation meeting on campus

The 18-member screening committee that will assist in the search for a new president at Southeastern Oklahoma State University participated in an orientation meeting on campus November 19.

The committee was appointed earlier this month by the Board of Regents of  the Regional University System of Oklahoma (RUSO) as they begin the search to replace Sean Burrage, who recently took the position of vice president for executive affairs at The University of Oklahoma.

The committee is composed of regents, faculty, staff, a student representative,  administrators, and community leaders. Serving as committee chair is Regent Jane McDermott, who expressed her appreciation to the group for serving,  while stressing the importance of their role.

In addition, the firm Higher Education Leadership Search has been retained by the RUSO regents to assist in the process. Search firm consultants Bill Meehan and Alan Medders attended this week’s meeting with the committee to explain how to access candidate information, how to begin the process of screening candidates, etc.

Medders noted that the position has attracted interest from quality candidates from across the country. The deadline to apply is December 6.

A second committee meeting is scheduled for December 11 to make candidate recommendations to the RUSO board.

The projected timeline for filling the vacancy is by May 1, 2020.
