The Department of Chemistry, Computer, and Physical Sciences at Southeastern Oklahoma State University has announced that Sydney Southward is the recipient of the 2022 Top General Chemistry Student Award.
She was selected among all students taking General Chemistry II (CHEM 1415) based on her performance on the American Chemical Society’s Examinations Institute’s exam on General Chemistry, which is used nationally as an instrument to assess student learning in the field. Southward’s performance topped all other students enrolled in CHEM 1415 in Spring 2022 who also took the exam.
Southward, who is from Ringling, Oklahoma, just completed her freshman year at Southeastern and plans to attend medical school to pursue a career in dermatology. The Honors Program student’s interests and hobbies include cheerleading at Southeastern, shopping, reading, and spending time with friends and family.
The award includes a certificate of recognition and a $100 Amazon gift card.
