Choirs of Southeastern to present ‘Alleluia’ on Oct. 25
October 12, 2022
The Choirs of Southeastern will present “Alleluia: Music to Awaken the Mind and Stir the Soul,” on Tuesday, October 25, at 7:30 p.m. The concert will be held at The Monterey Chapel on South 9th Street in Durant.
Joining the highly-acclaimed Southeastern Chorale and SE Choral Union will be special guests — the Denison High School Varsity Choir. The choirs will feature various favorite and newly-composed pieces based on the word “Alleluia,” including the famous “Hallelujah” Chorus from Handel’s “Messiah.’’ The evening will showcase a wide variety of styles, from classical settings, to Early-American hymnody, to Brazilian-inspired folk music.
“For this concert, we want to highlight a little of everything, and give the audience an approachable, bite-sized taste of what our choirs can do,” said Dr. Abby Musgrove, professor of music and director of choral activities at Southeastern “It’s really a celebration of singing and style and we want to share our music with the whole community.”
As a special treat, soprano and Southeastern professor of voice, Dr. Stella Yoon, will join the choir on selections from “Messiah.’’
The concert is free and open to the public.
