Honors students represent SE at conference

Emma Quintana won the John Britt Poster Award at the Great Plains Honors Council Annual Conference.

A group of Honors Program students from Southeastern Oklahoma State University participated in the Great Plains Honors Council Annual Conference.

The conference was held at Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, Texas. Junior biology major Emma Quintana of McAlester won the John Britt Poster Award for her “Comparison Study of 1999-2020 Native American Suicide Rates across the United States.”

Three additional Southeastern honors students presented at the conference, including Caddo senior studio art major Maxwell Hamblin (research poster and oral presentation); junior political science major Calia Walker  (Durant) gave an oral presentation; and freshman Kai Jones of Durant, a history/biology double major, presented a paper.

The students also heard about research conducted by other honors students from around the region, network with colleagues, and go on guided excursions to natural and cultural sites in the area.

Dr. Meg Cotter-Lynch, English professor, is the Honors Program Director.
