- Southeastern students, faculty member to participate in regional psychology convention
With continued poor travel conditions and cold temperatures, Southeastern Oklahoma State University will be closed through Friday, January 30, in the interest of health and safety of students, faculty, and staff. Essential services will be provided to residential students on campus, but other academic and business functions will be closed. Online and remote learning classes will proceed as scheduled. This closure applies to the Durant and McCurtain County campuses. Other satellite facilities will follow local guidance.
A faculty member and five students will represent Southeastern Oklahoma State University at the Southwestern Psychological Association (SWPA) Regional Convention March 31-April 1 in Frisco, Texas.
Attending from SE will be Dr. Amy Madewell, psychology program coordinator and associate professor, along with students Lindsey Mixon, Reagan Miller, Rebecca Vinson, Kristin Goodrich (graduate), and Karsyn McKinnon.
Madewell, Mixon, and Miller will make presentations — “The relationship between working memory and trauma among college students’’ — at the symposium. Offering poster presentations will be Vinson — “Parent and teacher perspectives on their relationship: Impact on children’s socio-emotional skills’’ – along with Goodrich and McKinnon — “The impact of childhood trauma on criminogenic thinking.’’
McKinnon is a senior psychology major from Durant; Miller, a senior psychology major from Madill; Mixon, senior psychology major from Atoka; Vinson, junior psychology major from Marietta; and Goodrich earned her bachelor’s degree in criminal justice-psychology in 2022.
The SWPA works to promote and strengthen psychology’s scientific, professional and educational facets. SWPA offers paper, poster, continuing education sessions, workshops, symposia, and invited talks. SWPA provides access to scientific advances and professional development within a collegial atmosphere.
