SE Golf Alum Zach James Wins Texas Open

TYLER, Texas – Much-acclaimed Southeastern golf alum Zach James added honors to his post Savage Storm career when he picked up a win in the 53rd M&P Group Texas State Open at Cascades Country Club in Tyler, Texas.

James posted four rounds all in the 60's, opening with a 64 and following with rounds of 69, 63, and 66 to card a tourney total score of 262 and win the event, and it's $40,000 winner's check, by two strokes.

"It's such a prestigious event," said James. "It's pretty much the best state open that you can have. To know that I can come in here and play some really really good golf and end up actually winning it is mind blowing to me… It's incredible."

It is the second state open he has won after taking home the 2021 Oklahoma Open which was held at Oak Tree CC in Edmond, Okla.

James was a star for SE golf from 2015-through-19 where he was two-time All-American, a two-time Great American Conference Golfer of the Year, a four-time All-GAC selection, and the 2018 GAC Championship Individual Champion.

He would add a pair of finalist selections for the Jack Nicklaus Division II Player of the Year Award and holds multiple SE record including total birdies with 475 in his career and total eagles with 23.

James now plays his golf out of Sherman, Texas, but came to Southeastern from Whitesboro, Texas, where he had grown up playing in the North Texas PGA Junior Tour.
