Southeastern Choirs to present “Home is Where…” on October 24

October 18, 2023

DURANT, Okla. – The choirs of Southeastern Oklahoma State University will present “Home is Where…”, a collection of music celebrating belonging, journey, and place, in the Montgomery Auditorium on Tuesday, October 24, at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free.

The university ensembles will be joined by special guests, the Sherman High School Varsity Choir.  The concert will feature selections from many styles and eras, from the Baroque to the modern day, and will include several surprises for the audience, such as early-American hymnody, pop a cappella selections, and elements from Broadway.

“The idea of home and belonging can take many different forms for people,” said Dr. Abby Musgrove, Director of Choral Activities at Southeastern. “We felt that an exploration in music should also include that kind of variety.”

This year’s university choirs have seen new vigor, with the largest incoming class of singers in many years, as well as increased community participation.

“The SE Choral Union has topped 65 singers, and counting,” added Dr. Musgrove. “When we add the Southeastern Chorale and the Sherman High School choir, we might run out of stage!  It’s such an exciting sound when so many singers join together in song.  It really pulls at your heart.”

The choirs will be joined by various faculty and student instrumentalists for the approximately one-hour event.
