- John Massey School of Business recognized with multiple awards at Federation of Business Disciplines conference
With continued poor travel conditions and cold temperatures, Southeastern Oklahoma State University will be closed through Friday, January 30, in the interest of health and safety of students, faculty, and staff. Essential services will be provided to residential students on campus, but other academic and business functions will be closed. Online and remote learning classes will proceed as scheduled. This closure applies to the Durant and McCurtain County campuses. Other satellite facilities will follow local guidance.
The John Massey School of Business at Southeastern Oklahoma State University was recognized for excellence in multiple fields at the national conference of the Federation of Business Disciplines in Galveston, Texas, this week.
Two of the nine associations represented at FBD are the Association for Small Business and Entrepreneurship (ASBE) and the Southwest Case Research Association (SWCRA). Leadership from the JMSB was recognized as the Educator of the Year by each of those groups.
The FBD awarded Outstanding Educator Awards for each of the associations. Dr. Courtney Kernek, JMSB Associate Dean, was the winner of the 2024 Educator of the Year award for ASBE and Dr. David Whitlock, Interim Deanof the JMSB, was the winner of the 2024 Educator of the Year award for SWCRA.
The ASBE awarded Distinguished Paper of the Year to Dr. Whitlock, Dr. Ashley Hampton, assistant professor, and Dr. Shanker Menon, associate professor, for their paper: Career Preferences of Business Students: Traditional Career Path or Entrepreneurship and Self-Employment?
The SWCRA awarded Distinguished Paper of the Year to Dr. Ying-Chou Lin, associate professor, and Dr. Arthur Tran, assistant professor, and Dr. Meng Li, associate professor at Roosevelt University, for their paper: Collapse of Silicon Valley Bank in 2023.
“The John Massey School of Business continues to elevate its reputation and the receipt of so many awards evidences this,” Dr. Whitlock said. “These honors demonstrate the high-quality education that JMSB students receive. I’m proud of our faculty for their continual pursuit of academic excellence, as scholars, practitioners, and as classroom teachers.”
