BETHANY, Okla. – The Southeastern Oklahoma State University eSports team competing in the game Rocket League won the championship at the Southern Nazarene University Invitational over the weekend, taking on a highly competitive regional field.
In the double-elimination format, SEsports started the tournament with 2-0 wins over Arkansas Tech and Oklahoma City, but then dropped a 3-1 loss to Oklahoma in the upper finals.
Facing elimination, Southeastern took three straight wins in sweeping fashion to claim the title. After beating OCU 3-0, SE needed to beat Oklahoma twice in succession to win the championship. The Southeastern squad did just that, avenging the earlier loss with a pair of 4-0 wins to take the trophy.
Students on the Southeastern team winning the SNU Invitational title are Carter “gamersity” Hancock, a junior from Tulsa, Dawson “DeeJay” Meador, a junior from Piedmont, and Christian “crimsonchin” Vining, a sophomore from Silo.
SEsports is in the midst of a fantastic regular season, leading its conference in Rocket League, Valorant, and Overwatch – all with undefeated records this season. Schedules for the SEsports teams can be found at https://necc.leagueos.gg/league/groups/2ipyvuflnvjvs2odf1k1is6a9
