Southeastern Student Government Association installs 2025-26 officers and senators, honors award winners at annual banquet

The 104th Legislature of the Southeastern Oklahoma State University Student Government Association (SGA) celebrated its annual banquet recently, concluding with the installation of new officers and senators for the 2025-26 academic year.

Outgoing President Addison McCortney, a graduating mathematics major from Ada, gave her final address sharing the Senate’s accomplishments of note. She also recognized vice president for student affairs Liz McCraw for her 35 years of service to students and welcomed guest speakers including Southeastern President Dr. Thomas W. Newsom, Director of Student Engagement David Penn, and Class of 2024 graduates Mikayla Kirkland and Jake Popowski.

Comments were offered by Vice President Reagan McCortney, a junior chemistry major from Ada, and outgoing Secretary Calia Walker, a senior political science major from Caddo.

Senator Haley Barron, graduating chemistry major from Durant, recognized the Sigma Tau Gamma Fraternity as the Organization of the Year. This award celebrates and recognizes an organization committed to providing opportunities for involvement and participation on campus.

SGA awards presented at the banquet were:

  • President’s Award – Caycen Work, a sophomore occupational safety and health major Lindsay
  • Vice President’s Award – Haley Langley, junior clinical psychology major from Durant
  • Secretary’s Award – Kyler Drake, a junior communication major from Davis
  • Rookies of the Year
    • Karma McDonald, a sophomore elementary education major from Valliant
    • Cora McKinney, a sophomore fisheries and wildlife management major from Oklahoma City
    • Kaysun Thralls, a freshman elementary education major from Calera
  • Reliability Award – Alex Robinson, a graduating management major from Bokchito
  • Campus Compliment – Lani Toomer, Student Affairs Coordinator

Graduating Seniors received their SGA Medals to wear during Commencement.

  • Landon Clark, a graduating aviation professional pilot major from Rockwall, Texas
  • Richy Clark, a graduating management major from Sherman, Texas
  • Addison McCortney, a graduating mathematics major from Ada
  • Alex Robinson, a graduating management major from Bokchito
  • Kayla Strong, a graduating sociology major from Cypress, Texas

Highlights from the 2024-25 session included 90 pieces of legislation passed, funding for student organizations, hosting the 40th Springfest in April, a successful 2024 Homecoming week, and hosting the first Oklahoma Student Advisory Council Campus Meeting.

The 2025-26 Executive Team Members were sworn in, with Sarah Coblentz, a senior political science major from Celina, Texas, sworn in as President, Reagan McCortney a senior chemistry major from Ada, sworn in as Vice President, and Haley Langley, a junior clinical psychology major from Durant, sworn in as Secretary.

President Coblentz gave her first address as student body president and swore in the new who will represent the student body as the 105th Student Government Association Legislature in the 2025-26 academic year:

  • Collin Bryant, an occupational safety and health major from Edmond
  • Autumn Costa, an aviation professional pilot major from Holdenville
  • Gavin Crouch, a finance major from Pauls Valley
  • Harper Duke, psychology major from Lindsay
  • Jayson Hauschild, a computer science major from Caddo
  • Carson Hendrich, an aviation professional pilot major from Forgan
  • Elias Jagoda, an aviation professional pilot major from Sunset, Texas
  • Dylan Klaassen, a chemistry major from Whitewater, Kans.
  • Kenedy Lafevers, a biology major from Durant
  • Cora McKinney, a fisheries and wildlife major from Oklahoma City
  • Brookelyn Mitchell, a chemistry major from Yukon
  • Sydney Reardon, an aviation-professional pilot major from Roanoke, Texas
  • Chloie Russell, a biology major from Calera
  • Jill Scott, a communication major from Pawnee
  • Jamela Shahab a psychology major from Durant
  • Kaysun Thralls, an elementary education major from Calera
  • Ainsley Trapp, a biology health science major from Sawyer
