Southeastern Choirs present “In the Highest” on October 28

October 21, 2025

The choirs of Southeastern Oklahoma State University will present their Fall Concert entitled “In the Highest,” at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 28, at the newly renovated Bell Tower Event Center (218 North 3rd Avenue). Admission to the concert is free of charge.

The concert will feature the Southeastern Chorale, the SE Choral Union, and the Denison High School Concert Choir as featured guests. A variety of musical styles will be presented, from medieval chant to gospel. The concert repertoire includes selections by Franz Joseph Haydn, Felix Mendelssohn, and Maurice Duruflé, as well as modern and living composers such as John Rutter and Andrea Ramsey.

“Our theme for this concert is ‘glory,’ and that word certainly shows up in innumerable choral works throughout the centuries,” said Dr. Abby Musgrove, Director of Choral Activities at Southeastern.  “This theme can be interpreted in so many ways, from contemplating the divine, to being awestruck by nature, to a very intimate personal experience. The variety of musical styles on this concert really mirrors that, and the Bell Tower venue is certainly ‘glorious’ for singing!”

The performance will also include a unique piece for treble voices and four-hand piano, as well as two movements from composer Elaine Hagenberg’s acclaimed Illuminare, a multi-movement choral work which blends medieval mystical texts with modern instruments and choral harmonies. The choirs will conclude with a joint number entitled Shout Glory, that will bring together over 100 voices in song.
