- Southeastern Flight Team places fourth at Region IV SAFECON
RUSTON, La. – The Southeastern Flight Team competed in the National Intercollegiate Flying Association’s Region IV SAFECON earlier in October at Louisiana Tech University. Southeastern placed fourth as a team in the overall results, which puts the team in position for a potential advancement to the National SAFECON in May 2026.
Highlights of the event for Southeastern included taking the top three spots in the Traditional Navigation competition, with the team of Hannah Gorman (junior – Lantana, Texas) and Antonin Stoddard (sophomore – Yukon) taking the event championship.
The team of captain Hannah Stout (junior – Allen, Texas) and Brooke Wilken (sophomore – Richardson, Texas) placed second, with the team of junior captain Jayden Warren (sophomore – Oklahoma City) and Annika Mortenson (junior – Dallas, Texas) placing third.
Colby Hotaling (senior – Spring, Texas) had two strong placements in individual events, placing second in Short Field landing and fourth in Power Off Landing.
The team of Wilken and Mortensen took third in Message Drop, followed by Stoddard and Hotaling in eighth, and Bryanna Orr-Schimming (freshman – Willow Park, Texas) and Gorman in ninth.
Gavin Borgmann (senior – Allen, Texas) placed sixth in Computer Accuracy, Gorman placed ninth in Preflight Inspection, and Stout placed ninth in Ground Trainer. Selected individuals and teams will compete at the National SAFECON in Moline, Illinois, on May 18-23, 2026. Full regional results are available here
