105th Candlelighting Concert at Southeastern to be performed on December 4

November 18, 2025

The Choirs of Southeastern Oklahoma State University will present the 105th Candlelighting Concert on Thursday, December 4 at 7:30 p.m. in historic Montgomery Auditorium.  The concert will last approximately 75 minutes and is free and open to the public.

The concert will include holiday music from various historical eras and modern styles, highlighted by a performance of John Rutter’s well-known Gloria. This 15-minute masterpiece is traditional for Christmas and will be performed by over 70 singers accompanied by a nine-piece brass and percussion ensemble.

“This work is exciting and rhythmic, with plenty of musical fireworks in the first and third movements, and a hauntingly beautiful middle movement,” said Southeasten director of choral activities Dr. Abby Musgrove. “It’s beloved by choirs and audiences all over the world, and our SE choirs are excited to gift this performance to our community for the holidays.”

The Southeastern Choirs will be joined this year by many faculty and student instrumentalists, including the above-mentioned brass group as well as members of the SE Percussion Ensemble.

Additionally, the Durant High School Varsity Mixed Choir hsa been invited to perform a few holiday selections of their own and join in on several pieces, swelling the combined chorus to over 100 singers.
