SE’s 2025 Green Eggs and Hamlet literary journal earns REALM Awards Excellent rating

February 12, 2026

Green Eggs and Hamlet – the student literary journal at Southeastern Oklahoma State University – has been recognized with an Excellent rating in the 2025 Recognizing Excellence in Art and Literary Magazines (REALM) Awards sponsored by the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE). Green Eggs and Hamlet has now been rated by the REALM Awards in its first two years of submission.

Reverie – the 2025 edition of Green Eggs and Hamlet – is the 30th edition of the journal and the second full publication since the COVID-19 pandemic forced a halt to production. Schools in 46 states and five countries nominated student magazines from across higher education, high schools, and middle school ranks for consideration in this year’s REALM Awards.

The REALM program publicly recognizes excellent literary magazines produced by students with the support of their teachers. REALM is designed to encourage all schools to develop literary magazines that celebrate the art and craft of writing.

“Under the direction of advisor Karen Maple and the 2025 editor, Hannah Peterson, Green Eggs and Hamlet provides important opportunities to showcase the outstanding creative works of our students and members of our campus community,” said Dr. Rolando Diaz, Chair of the Department of English, Humanities, and Languages. “Congratulations to all the talented authors and artists who have been recognized with the rating of Excellent by the prestigious REALM Award.”

Student leadership of Transitions included Hannah Peterson, assistant editor Kolton Moye, secretary Hallie Pittman, photo editor Lillie Hearon-Brewer, and social media manager Samantha Scott. The cover was designed by Priscilla Burrola.

Other student staff were literary staff Kyle Copeland, Lucille Ranney, and Brooklyn Young, and art liaisons Mica Combs, Raeleigh Northcutt, and Aubrery Provence.

Faculty advisors are Karen Maple, Instructor and Learning Center Liaison in the Department of English, Humanities & Languages, and Jack Ousey, Professor in the Department of Visual Art, Communication, Social Sciences, & Native American Leadership.
