Southeastern Honors students present at Fourth Annual Red River Honors Symposium

TEXARKANA, Texas – Five students from the Southeastern Oklahoma State University Honors Program presented their research at the Fourth Annual Red River Honors Symposium, hosted by Texas A&M University-Texarkana, with one student bringing home an award.

Aidan Devore, a sophomore political science major from Caddo, was first runner up in the Social Sciences and Service Learning division for his poster presentation on “Mapping the Gaps: Access, Barriers, and Solutions in Oklahoma Domestic Violence Services”.

Jaygen Guilbeau, a sophomore psychology major from Durant presented a poster on “Bridging Campus and Community: Implementing a Student-Survivor Alliance in Partnership with the Crisis Control Center.”

Devore and Guilbeau both presented research which grew out of the service learning aspect of the Honors College Success course, which they took in fall 2024 with Honors advisor Rachel Childers as instructor. 

Olivia Jones, a junior psychology major from Hartshorne, gave an oral presentation on “Breaking the Stigma around Mental Health.” Victoria Arnold, a freshman Political Science and History double major from Durant, gave an oral presentation on “Tap Dance in the Civil War.” Jameelah Ahmed, a junior liberal and applied studies major from Madill, gave an oral presentation on “Internal Division and the Fight for Unity: How Institutional Christianity Exacerbated Fragmentation throughout History.”

Now in its fourth year, the Red River Honors Symposium brings together honors students from Louisiana, Arkansas, Texas, and Oklahoma, giving undergraduates the opportunity to present research, gain professional experience, and network with students and faculty members from throughout the region.
