DURANT, Okla. – Katie Denton, a Southeastern Oklahoma State University alumna, was recently named New Teacher of the Year by the Sherman Independent School District.
Denton graduated from Southeastern in 2024 earning a Bachelor of Science in elementary education. She was in her first year as a fifth-grade teacher at Sory Elementary School.

Dr. Susan Morrison, one of Denton’s professors at Southeastern, said Denton’s recognition comes at no surprise.
“I was ecstatic to see on the television news that Katie Denton had been named Sherman’s New Teacher of the Year! However, I was not surprised—no one who knows Katie would be surprised that she was the recipient of this award. Katie truly embodies the very best of Southeastern and exemplifies excellence in all she does,” said Morrison.
