June 8, 2026

DURANT, Okla. – Kasey Bennett, a two-time graduate of Southeastern Oklahoma State University and a K-4 STEM teacher at Northwest Heights Elementary in Durant Public Schools, has been named the 2026 Oklahoma Teacher of the Year.

Bennett received the state’s top teaching honor during a banquet on Friday, June 5.

She holds two degrees from Southeastern — a Bachelor of Arts in Communication (2006) and a Master of Education in School Administration (2015).

As a proud alumna, Bennett has remained connected with her alma mater over the years, most recently serving as a panelist for the 2026 Prospective Teacher Academy hosted by the university’s Department of Educational Instruction and Leadership.

Bennett joins fellow Southeastern graduate Jon Hazell, who also earned the honor after being named the Oklahoma Teacher of the Year in 2017.
