DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern Oklahoma State University sophomore Alexander Wall was recently awarded the Captain Jason Dahl Scholarship during a ceremony on Sept. 11 in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

The scholarship fund was established in memory of Captain Jason Dahl and in remembrance of all victims of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. It provides scholarships to qualified students seeking to attend accredited commercial flight training schools in the United States.

Alexander Wall was awarded the Captain Jason Dahl Scholarship.

Dahl was the captain of United Airlines Flight 93, which was hijacked at 9:28 a.m. on Sept. 11, 2001. The aircraft crashed at 10:03 a.m. in a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania, after passengers and crew members attempted to regain control of the aircraft. The flight was believed to be headed toward a target in Washington, D.C., with the U.S. Capitol identified by the National Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States as the likely intended target.

“Receiving the Captain Jason Dahl Scholarship is a tremendous honor,” said Wall. “It not only supports my flight training, but also honors Captain Dahl’s legacy of leadership, education, and service.”

Wall, a sophomore from Prosper, Texas, is majoring in Aviation and plans to become a pilot for a major airline.
