Biography
Sierra Downs is a full-time instructor for the Department of Occupational Safety and Health at Southeastern Oklahoma State University. In this role, she teaches a variety of undergraduate courses focused on occupational safety principles, regulatory compliance, and the practical application of safety and health standards. Her instructional interests include safety education, instructional effectiveness, and inclusive practices that support student success in higher education. She is actively involved in curriculum development, course assessment, program enhancement, and student engagement initiatives, demonstrating a strong commitment to preparing graduates for successful and impactful careers in the safety profession.
Sierra is currently pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Occupational Safety and Health at West Virginia University’s Benjamin M. Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources. Her research interests focus on indoor air quality, building-related illnesses, and long COVID, emphasizing the intersection of environmental conditions, occupational health outcomes, and aging infrastructures.
