Biography

Dr. Benjamin Raviotta is adjunct professor of horn at Southeastern Oklahoma State University, a freelance symphony musician and horn teacher in the DFW metroplex. He is third hornist of the San Angelo Symphony Orchestra, a position he has held since 2006. As a member of various local DFW orchestras, he has performed with famous artists such as Diana Ross, Ben Folds, Amy Grant, and Michael W. Smith.

Dr. Raviotta received his Doctor of Musical Arts degree in horn performance from the University of North Texas (UNT) in 2016 with a related field of composition under the tutelage of Dr. William Scharnberg. He performed with the UNT Wind Symphony for three years under the direction of Eugene Corporon and can be heard on GIA WindWorks recordings and DVDs. He was a featured artist at the International Horn Symposium in Denton, TX in June of 2012 as principal hornist with the UNT Horn Choir for the opening gala, and as a soloist for the world premiere of Kerosene by composer and friend, Jason Fick.

Dr. Raviotta maintains a robust studio of 50+ students ranging in all ages and ability levels. He specializes in teaching students with learning differences, as he has been shaped by his research and experiences as a musician with dyslexia and ADHD. He is a member of the prestigious Pi Kappa Lambda National Music Honor Society. He also holds a Master of Music degree from Louisiana State University and a Bachelor of Music degree from Virginia Commonwealth University
